This free tech pack template has every section a sportswear manufacturer asks for: cover sheet, flat sketches, bill of materials, measurements with tolerances, construction details, labels and packaging, artwork placement, grading notes and a revision log. Download it, fill it in and send it with your quote request.

A tech pack tells a factory exactly what to make, so the quote and the first sample match your intent. The step-by-step explanation is in our guide to creating a sportswear tech pack; this page gives you the working files and a complete example to copy from.

You do not need every section to be perfect. If you only have a reference image or a rough sketch, send that: the ordering process includes a sample round where details get settled.

Worked example

A complete tech pack, section by section

The example below is for a generic short-sleeve training tee. Every figure is made up to show how a section is filled in. It is not a real order, a Nyxlete specification or a quote.

Example: not a real order. Fabric, sizes, measurements and tolerances are illustrative only. Replace every value with your own and agree real specifications with your supplier.

Flat sketches

Example: not a real order

Front, back and detail views laid flat, not on a model. Use callouts to point at seams, collars, pockets and trims.

Callouts for this view

  1. Crew neck with 1x1 rib collar, 2 cm wide
  2. Set-in sleeve, flatlock seams at shoulder and side
  3. Straight hem, coverstitch finish
  4. Chest logo position marked on front view
  5. Back neck label sits centred below collar seam

Also add: back flat, detail views (neck, hem, sleeve opening).

How tolerances work

  • Tolerance is the amount a finished garment may differ from the stated measurement and still pass. It is written as plus or minus, for example +/- 1.0 cm.
  • Tighter tolerances suit fit-critical points such as the neck and shoulder; looser ones are normal on long, stretchy panels such as body length. Stretch fabrics and relaxed versus stretched measurement change what is realistic.
  • The figures in this example are illustrative only. They are not a Nyxlete standard. Agree real tolerances with your supplier for every point of measure, in writing, before the first sample.

Grading notes (size run)

Example: not a real order

Name the base size and how each measurement changes per size step across the run.

Point of measureGrade per size step (cm)Notes
A Chest width2.0Full grade between each size
B Body length (HPS)2.0Length grades in the same step as width in this example
C Shoulder width1.5Shoulders grade less than the body
D Sleeve length1.0Short sleeve, small grade
E Sleeve opening1.0Keep the sleeve hem proportionate to the arm
F Hem width2.0Matches chest grade
G Neck width0.5Neck grades the least
H Front neck drop0.5Small grade, check with each fit sample

Size run: S, M, L, XL

  • Name the base size (the size the first sample is made in) and grade up and down from it.
  • State the size run you need and the quantity per size when you request a quote.
  • Say whether the chart gives finished garment measurements or body measurements. They are not interchangeable.

FAQ

Tech pack template: common questions

New to tech packs? Read how to create a sportswear tech pack, then see how an order runs from brief to bulk.

Is the sportswear tech pack template really free?

Yes. You can download the Excel and PDF versions without signing up and use them for your own products, including commercial work. A link back to this page is appreciated but not required. The template is generic, so it works with any manufacturer.

Do I need a finished tech pack before I ask for a quote?

No. A full tech pack gives the most accurate quote and a sample closer to what you pictured, but Nyxlete can also start from a reference image, a garment you already own or a rough sketch with a few notes. The template helps you fill in what is missing.

What tolerance should I write in the measurement table?

There is no single right figure. Tolerance depends on the point of measure, the garment and the fabric, and stretch fabrics behave differently from woven ones. The numbers in the worked example are illustrative only. Agree tolerances with your supplier for every point of measure, in writing, before the first sample.

Can I edit the template and send it to any manufacturer?

Yes. The Excel file has one sheet per section so you can add rows, change columns and attach artwork. Keep a version number on the cover and log every change on the revision sheet so that nobody works from an outdated copy.
